What is the aim of this initiative?

The International Society of Neuropathology formally endorses the ALBA Declaration to foster a fair, diverse and inclusive environment, in particular for members of underrepresented groups and / or individuals from low and middle income countries facing barriers to equitable representation in science. Our goal is to eliminate prejudice and discrimination on the basis of individual or group characteristics, thereby promoting equal opportunity.

How do we achieve this goal?

We believe in equity, i.e. equality of opportunity for all − ensuring that no-one is treated less favourably. We promote diversity, i.e. a welcoming environment for individuals from a broad range of backgrounds and with various mindsets where differences between individuals are respected. We strive for inclusion, i.e. encouraging open and respectful communication and creating a harmonious inclusive work environment, where minorities feel genuinely valued.

Who are we?

We are a worldwide community of neuropathologists. We are medical doctors and scientists who seek knowledge about diseases affecting the nervous system and muscles and help patients by identifying these diseases and advise on their treatment. Our members are of different ethnicities, nationalities, socio-economic backgrounds, creed and colour. All genders and different sexual orientations are represented in our community. We represent a wide range of age groups. We are different, but we view our differences as empowering, leading to a global culture of collaboration, creativity and innovation. By transcending our differences, we are working to eliminate unconscious bias. In the end, we are more similar than we may think.

Come and join us in our mission to foster equity, diversity and inclusion!
